Upgrading Desktop to Ubuntu 10.10

I'm going to try an in-place distribution upgrade on my main desktop, the hex-core. Sometimes (usually) this works great, but occasionally it wonks up. Like my laptop, I've got a smaller partition (64G for root, and separate partition (32G for swap, but it's also got a separate /usr/local (128G. The rest is /home, so if I need to, I can scrap what I've got and start anew.
