Finally Rearranged Home Office
A little while ago I finished building a six-core workstation to replace my works-just-fine dual-core. Yesterday I rearranged the home office to put it into primary machine position.
First Day with Foyo
As I was turning in last night, my Droid begged for attention. After finishing brushing my teeth, I peeked at the screen. I expected yet another e-mail announcement, but instead was rewarded with the alert that my system update was available! I've been waiting for the update (code-named Froyo, as in Frozen Yogurt) mostly patiently since it was officially announced to be forthcoming a couple months ago. I set it on its upgrade and turned in. I've had a little time to dork with it today, so here's my first bit of impressions.
Graffiti On Android
Anyone who had an old-school Palm Pilot remembers Graffiti, I'm sure. It used to take the lower third of the screen, and allowed a sort of sloppy single-stroke letter sketching for input. no soft or real keyboard in those days.
Vending Machine Bandit
In an effort to have a quick lunch, I hit the vending machine. Yummy, right?
Laptop Recovered from Magic-button Destruction
After earlier bonking the wrong button to power-up the laptop, grimacing upon learning that destroys non-Windows partitions, and working to recover from it all, the system is back.
Dell Magic Button Destroys Laptop
"Destroys laptop" is a little harsh, but it did destroy a partition on my hard drive, the one responsible for booting and running my OS, rendering it no longer useful.
Re-rearranging Servers
Since I'm done building the hex-core, I decided that I could use the dual-core to host the web and mail services currently being served by a slower single-core Sempron. The dual-core nicely has twice the storage (500GB instead of 250G
and four-times the RAM (8GB instead of 2G
. Most importantly, the dual-core hasn't barked at the software upgrades. And the software on the dual-core is also mostly of the 64-bit variety.
